INEC begins public display of candidates’ particulars for 2027 elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday commenced the public display of the personal particulars of candidates nominated by political parties for the 2027 general election, in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The exercise, which follows the Commission’s revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, involves the publication of nomination documents submitted by candidates seeking elective offices, including the January 16, 2027, presidential election.
In a statement, INEC said the display began at its Federal Capital Territory headquarters in Abuja and simultaneously across its six Area Council offices. The exercise is aimed at promoting transparency and allowing members of the public to scrutinise the credentials and other particulars submitted by candidates.
Representing the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner during the exercise, the Administrative Secretary, Bimbo Oladunjoye, said the publication was a statutory requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026.
She explained that the law requires the Commission to display the personal particulars, affidavits and other relevant documents of candidates in the constituencies where they intend to contest elections.
Oladunjoye said the exercise covers presidential candidates and National Assembly candidates contesting elections in the FCT and is being conducted simultaneously at all INEC offices across the six Area Councils to ensure easy public access.
She described the display of candidates’ particulars as a key aspect of the electoral process that strengthens transparency, accountability and public confidence in elections.
Oladunjoye urged citizens, political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to carefully examine the information displayed and participate in the scrutiny process.
She reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to complying with the law and implementing its timetable for the 2027 general election.
“The Commission is on course with its preparations for the 2027 General Elections and will continue to carry out every stage of the electoral process in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines,” she said.
