Mubi curfew relaxed as Fintiri seeks to revive commercial activities

Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has relaxed the curfew imposed on Mubi as part of efforts to restore normalcy and revive economic activities in the commercial city.

Under the revised arrangement, vehicular movement, including tricycles and electric bicycles, will be restricted between 9pm and 6am daily.

People travelling on foot will be allowed to move until 10pm, pending further directives from the state government.

The governor approved the adjustment after a review of the security situation in Mubi, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by his chief press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

Fintiri thanked residents for their cooperation and compliance with the earlier curfew, saying their support had contributed to the restoration of peace in the area.

He said Mubi, one of Adamawa’s major commercial centres and an important trading hub in the north-east, plays a significant role in trade, agriculture and cross-border commerce.

“Sustaining peace is necessary for businesses to thrive, markets to remain open, and for residents to go about their legitimate businesses without fear,” the governor said.

Fintiri said the government was committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring that economic activities were not unnecessarily disrupted.

He urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies and remain vigilant to preserve the peace in the city.

The governor also warned miscreants and criminal elements against actions capable of threatening the security situation.

“Anyone found engaging in criminal activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said, adding that the government would not allow individuals to undermine the peace restored in Mubi.

Fintiri said his administration would continue working with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups to consolidate security gains and keep Mubi safe and conducive for commerce.
