Soldiers rescue six abductees, recover AK-47 in north-west operations

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have killed a suspected terrorist and rescued six kidnap victims during separate operations in Sokoto and Zamfara states, the military has said.

The operations, carried out on Saturday, 26 September, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a foreign military uniform.

The media information officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt Col Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement.

According to Danja, troops of Sector 2 acted on intelligence about a suspected terrorist camp in Gudu local government area of Sokoto state and launched an operation on the location.

The military said troops encountered a suspected terrorist during the operation and killed him.

An AK-47 rifle, ammunition, a foreign military uniform, tools and clothing were recovered from the location, according to the statement.

In a separate operation in Zamfara state, troops responded to reports that armed men were attempting to abduct members of the Sarkin Samari’s family in Tsafe local government area.

The military said troops confronted the attackers, forcing them to retreat into nearby bushes.

Six people who had been abducted were subsequently rescued and taken to a safe location ahead of their reunification with their families.

The Joint Task Force said the operations formed part of continuing efforts to tackle terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities across the north-west.

It urged residents to provide security agencies with credible and timely information about the activities and movements of suspected terrorists and other armed groups in their communities.
