INEC seeks probe of alleged forged APC primary report naming Okorocha
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo State has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged falsified All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election report circulating on social media.
The disputed document purportedly identified former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, as the APC candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.
In separate petitions dated October 5 and 8, 2026, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Chukwuemeka Ibeziako, described the document as fraudulent, insisting that it contradicted the official report submitted to INEC’s national headquarters.
According to Ibeziako, the report dated May 18, 2026, identified Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma as the winner of the APC senatorial primary election for Imo West.
He maintained that the report circulating on social media, which allegedly declared Okorocha the winner, did not reflect the commission’s official records.
The REC said copies of both documents had been forwarded to the security agencies to assist their investigations.
INEC identified the report it considers authentic as Annexure A, while the disputed document was attached as Annexure B.
The commission urged the DSS and police to investigate the origin, circulation and circumstances surrounding the disputed report and take appropriate action against anyone found responsible for wrongdoing.
It warned that the circulation of conflicting electoral documents could generate political tension and threaten public order in Imo State.
The commission also stressed the importance of protecting the integrity of electoral records and preventing the dissemination of documents capable of misleading political parties, candidates and the electorate.
The petitions have raised questions about the authenticity of documents circulating ahead of the 2027 general election.
As of the time of the reported petitions, no response from Okorocha or the APC concerning the allegations was included in the information made available.
