Zamfara lawmakers deny returning to APC after Tinubu meeting
Eight suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have denied reports that they have returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following their meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The lawmakers said their visit was intended to address issues surrounding their suspension from the Assembly, outstanding entitlements and possible steps towards resolving the dispute.
Speaking to journalists, their spokesman and member representing Bakura Constituency, Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, dismissed reports suggesting that the lawmakers had rejoined the ruling party.
“Neither have we decamped to the APC nor promised to return to the APC. What took us to the Villa was to discuss the problem of why we were suspended, our pending entitlements and how to resolve it,” Bakura said.
He described reports circulating on some online platforms about their alleged return to the APC as false and misleading.
Bakura maintained that the lawmakers had made no commitment to rejoin the party, insisting that any future political decision would be formally communicated to the public.
“If we decide to return to the APC officially, I will personally call journalists and other important media houses and brief them,” he added.
The eight lawmakers had recently resigned from the APC before meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday.
They were accompanied to the meeting by the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.
Their appearance at the Presidential Villa had fuelled speculation about a possible political realignment, particularly amid preparations for the 2027 general elections.
However, the lawmakers maintained that their engagement with the president was strictly focused on resolving their legislative grievances rather than negotiating a return to the ruling party.
Their clarification comes amid continuing uncertainty over their suspension and the outstanding entitlements they are seeking to recover.
The lawmakers have not announced any decision to rejoin the APC.
