Adamawa APC governorship candidate warns social media team against insulting opponents
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Tijjani Aminu Galadima, has warned members of his social media team against insulting or attacking other candidates on his behalf, urging them to promote responsible political communication ahead of the 2027 general election.
Galadima, alongside his running mate, Adamu Kamale, gave the warning during an engagement with the campaign’s social media team, where the importance of civility, accuracy and respect for political opponents was emphasised.
He admonished members of the social media team to verify every story before publishing it on their social media handles, stressing that spreading unverified information could mislead the public and undermine responsible political engagement.
Galadima maintained that political differences should not become an excuse for personal attacks, insults or the circulation of misleading information against opponents.
Speaking at the event, the organisers also cautioned the social media team against confusing content creation with professional journalism, noting that both activities require different levels of training, responsibility and editorial judgment.
According to the organisers, while a trained journalist can function as a content creator, being a content creator does not automatically qualify an individual as a professional journalist.
They explained that journalism involves systematic news gathering, verification of facts, assessment of sources and editorial scrutiny before information is released to the public.
The organisers further stressed that professional journalists carefully assess information in the public interest, particularly where premature publication could threaten public safety, create unnecessary tension or damage reputations.
They warned members of the social media team against rushing to publish sensitive information without proper verification, especially during politically charged periods.
The social media team was consequently encouraged to prioritise factual reporting, constructive political engagement and responsible dissemination of information rather than resorting to inflammatory statements or personal attacks.
The engagement comes as political parties and their supporters increasingly rely on social media platforms to communicate with voters ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.
