COP28: Nigeria To Rollout 100 Electric Buses – Tinubu

On Saturday, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria announced that 100 electric buses will be introduced into the country as a means to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

“The pioneering initiative” aims to upgrade Nigeria’s transport networks and “significantly” decrease the country’s carbon footprint, Tinubu announced in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on the fringes of the COP28 climate meeting.

We are proud to have collaborated with the Africa Carbon Market Initiative on this project, which demonstrates our commitment to environmental care. “Our visionary plan is a strategic guidepost, directing Nigeria towards becoming an investment-

friendly destination for carbon market investments,” presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale described his principal as saying.

We understand the need of creating a setting that encourages investment while simultaneously supporting sustainable and standardised manufacturing methods.

To demonstrate our progressive nature, we are striving to establish strong, enabling laws and structures that will spur the rapid expansion of our domestic carbon market. In addition to Dahiru Salisu, the Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), and Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), President Tinubu chose them to co-chair the Nigeria Carbon Market Activation Plan.

As part of his agenda to make Nigeria and Africa the vanguard of environmentally friendly manufacturing and industrialization, Tinubu is calling on other African nations to do the same.

“As we reveal our initiatives, I urge other nations to follow our lead in planning their sustainable futures, fully aware that Africa is a model of creative responses to climate change,” he declared.

“Plans for a greener and cleaner economy can serve as an inspirational narrative for nations worldwide,” Tinubu said of Nigeria. “We are confident that our comprehensive approach—which is based on forward-thinking leadership and practical measures backed by our technical partners—will serve as a model for other nations that want to develop and stimulate their markets for long-term growth,” the president stated.
