Tinubu heads to Saudi Arabia for Umrah
President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah and offer prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity and stability.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the pilgrimage would provide Tinubu with an opportunity for spiritual reflection and devotion.
“The visit gives the President an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion, and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability, and continued progress,” Onanuga said.
He explained that the President would undertake the religious rites associated with Umrah, seeking divine guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.
Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year, unlike the annual Hajj, which takes place during a specified period of the Islamic calendar.
Before departing Abuja, Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force to strengthen its operations.
According to the statement, the inauguration will take place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The presidency did not disclose the specific equipment to be inaugurated or provide details of the President’s engagements during his stay in Saudi Arabia.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the pilgrimage.
The visit comes as the administration continues to address economic and security challenges across the country.
