Gov. Bindow assents to Jimeta modern market management Bill into law.

Gov. Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa on Wednesday signed into law the Jimeta modern market management bill passed by the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

The Governor made the signing at the premises of the Jimeta modern market complex in Yola.

 

 

The governor said that the act was to give autonomy for the management of markets by traders. According to him, other markets in the state will soon benefit from similar gesture. He explained that the signing of the bill, which is historic, would also provide independence as well as job opportunities for youths in the state. Bindow disclosed that government would construct more shops and empower small traders in the market.

 

 

The governor also said that the government would appoint an executive secretary as well as a board who would administer the market. Secretary to the State Government, Dr Umar  Bindir said the granting of autonomy to the market was to compliment effort of government in infrastructural development. Chairman of State House of Assembly Committee on Commerce, Alhaji Suleiman Alkali, who is also a member representing Yola north, said the event was in fulfilment of campaign promise made in 2015 to the traders.

 

Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Hamman-Tukur Daware in a welcome address, said the event was historic and demonstrated the commitment as well as the zeal of the governor to provide a conducive environment for economic growth in the state.

Chairmen of  Rana ta Fito and Gamzaki Traders Association, Alhaji Kawule Dasin and Alhaji Ibrahim Eighty six in their seperate remarks appealed to government to assist traders with soft loans as well as additional shops to create a more conducive atmosphere for business to thrive.
