SDP to Boycott Governorship Rerun Election for Adamawa

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa has directed its supporters not to participate in the governorship rerun election fixed for March 28, 2019 in Adamawa. State Organising Secretary of the party Azeez Jibrilla announced the position of the party on Wednesday in an interview with news men in Yola.
Jibrilla said that the party was not consulted before fixing the new date for the rerun election.

He also said that the party had not received any official notice from INEC in respect of the supplementary election in the state. He urged INEC to fix another day for the party to get fully prepared for the rerun, adding that the party deserved to be carried along in every process concerning the election. “SDP has directed all its members across the state not to participate in tomorrow’s supplementary election.”Even if we came last in the governorship election, we deserved recognition as a stakeholder in the electioneering process.

“You can imagine that we had not been served with any official notice regarding the conduct of the supplementary election.”It is quite embarrassing that our members are asking us about the rerun and we do not have a correspondent to that regard. “We urge the INEC to fix another day to enable us prepare for the rerun’, Jibrilla insisted.

Adamawa High Court sitting in Yola earlier vacated an order restraining INEC from conducting a supplementary election in the state. INEC went ahead to fix Thursday March 28, 2019 for the governorship rerun.
