COVID 19: Nasarawa to complete work on centre for diseases control, opens 10 isolation centres

Following the gradual spread of the coronavirus pandemic across the country, the Nasarawa State Government has constituted a high powered committee on the pandemic and its impact on the economy of the state.
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, announced this during a state wide broadcast, on Tuesday.
This is just as the Governor said government will adopt enforcement of restrictions on large gatherings, especially in Churches and Mosques, motor parks, markets and other social gatherings such as night clubs, naming ceremonies, marriages, among others.
Engineer Sule stated further that the committee, which is to be headed by the state Deputy Governor. Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, has been mandated to assess the situation of COVID 19 in the state and advice government on measures to be taken.
The committee, according to the Governor, is also expected to liaise and obtain inputs on all sectors from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on COVID 19 and its impact on the state economy and advise Government appropriately.
In its bid to enforce compliance with the restrictions on large gatherings, the Governor directed
security agencies to ensure strict compliance across the state, having already shut down all public and private schools.
“The Committee is also to explore ways of attracting intervention from the Development Partners to the State, especially in the areas of health, education, completion of the Infectious Diseases, Diagnosis and Research Centre and water supply; to carry out sensitization and enlightenment campaigns on COVID-19, including regular press briefings to the public on the status of the disease,” he stated.
The Governor therefore called on residents to abide by the instructions on the restriction of movements, social distancing and large gathering in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 in the state.
