COVID-19: Nasarawa to confiscate Keke, motorcycle violating ban on commercial activities

Following the confirmation of an index case for coronavirus in the state, Nasarawa State Government has threatened to confiscate any Keke or motorcycle found to be violating the ban on commercial activities in the state.

This decision was arrived at during an expanded executive council meeting, which held at the Government House , on Tuesday.

Briefing journalists on the development, shortly after the meeting, State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Associate Professor Abubakar Kana, announced a slight adjustment to the Government Proclamation No.4 banning the operation of commercial motorcycles or Keke, with the private motorcycle only allowed to carry only the rider and no passenger.

Professor Kana warned that any commercial motorcycle or tricycle found to be violating the ban, will henceforth be confiscated, in accordance of the law.

The Justice Commissioner disclosed that Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, will issue an order extending the period of the restrictions imposed in the state, just as he said that the Governor will also amend the Nasarawa State Dangerous Infectious Diseases Prevention Regulation, in order to expand his powers to seize and impound vehicles and motorcycles used in breaching the restrictions already issued.

He further disclosed that, in line with the decision of the position taken by the Northern Governors, during their last meeting, regarding the Almajiri, the Nasarawa State Government has resolved to repatriate all Almajirai residing and studying in the state back to their states of origin, starting from tomorrow.
