Every Time Fintiri Opens His Mouth, Nine Lies Fly Out: Coronavirus Edition

Over the past several weeks, Ahmadu Fintiri has addressed Adamawa residents multiple times on the matter of the deadly coronavirus, presumably in an attempt to assure people he has things under control and that there’s no need to panic.

Unfortunately, each time the result has been that most of the state has been left significantly more concerned than it was before he approached the lectern, which probably has to do with the fact that (1) Fintiri routinely uses the opportunity to spread germs, possibly COVID-19-laced, in real time, (2) that he says things like, “I will reduce house and shop rents by 50 percent. I will wave tax regime, we have equip our hospitals.

A lot of positive. Different numbers, all different numbers, very large numbers, and some small numbers too,” and (3) at least half to three quarters of the claims that come out of his mouth are complete and total lies.

Fintiri told Adamawa residents during one of his state broadcast on covid 19 that ““As part of the efforts to control, prevent, and contain the spread, an Isolation Ward, equipped with monitors has already been prepared at the Yola Specialist Hospital, pursuant to my directive. .”.”

Fintiri’s claims were not just complete fiction but wildly dangerous given that the number one thing health officials have advised is for people to stay home and away from others, and telling residents that the state hospital is capable of handling any outbreak, this is exactly the kind of false hope that’s caused them to continue to hope that the state owned hospital can handle any victims of corona virus.

Governor Fintiri inflated the concept far beyond reality. At a news conference in the government house, Yola he said that house and shop rents will be reduced by 50 percent, falsely claiming that plights of the residents during the covid 19 lockdown will be taken care of.

The disconnect between Mr. Fintiri’s exuberant comments since he became governor of Adamawa state and the modest expectations of the people  was the latest example of the governor exaggerating, overselling, or making wholly inaccurate statements about his administration’s response to the virus and governance, even as facts on the ground contradicted his rosy assessments of progress.

Fintiri’s supporters took to social media to rage at the media for accurately reporting lies told by their principal that his claim about running a transparent government is bore little resemblance to what the governor promised the people during campaign, because demonizing his predecessor comes much more naturally to him than admitting he’s a pathological liar.
