Fintiri sworn in for second term.

Governor Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri and his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, were sworn in for a second term in office on Monday in Yola.

Justice Hasphat Abdurahhaman, the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, administered the Oath of Office around 10.15 a.m.

Governor Fintiri was, on April 19th, declared the winner of the March 18th governorship elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The Returning Officer for the 2019 presidential elections, Prof. Mele Kyari, made the declaration.

Fintiri, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, polled 430,861 votes to defeat Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, of the All-Progressive Congress, who had 396,788. votes.

Fintiri was first inaugurated as Governor of Adamawa State on May 29, 2019, making it the first time in Adamawa’s history that an opposition candidate was taking over from an incumbent governor.

The 2023 gubernatorial inauguration, which was held at the Ahmadu Ribadu Square in Yola, was heralded by a colourful parade that received the service chiefs, CJ, Deputy Governor, and Governor as they arrived.

Fintiri and Farauta were accompanied to the event by their spouses, Lami Umaru Fintiri and Mr. George Farauta, respectively.

Soon after the swearing-in, there was the lowering and hoisting of national flags.

Afterwards, the governor inspected the Guard of Honour and acknowledged cheers from the guests.

The event attracted former governors and a former Vice president of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Others were service chiefs, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the State Executive Council, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Secretary to the Government of Adamawa State, Head of Civil Service of Adamawa State, and captains of industry.

Barr. AT Shehu, the state PDP chairman, and other party chieftains were also present.
