Wike vows to work for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he is working tirelessly to ensure President Bola Tinubu wins the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday during a media chat, saying opposition politicians Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi would target him politically if Tinubu lost the election.

“If anything happens and Mr President fails today, I will be the first politician that Atiku [and] Obi will hunt for his head,” Wike said.

He said his decision to support Tinubu was not intended as a threat to the opposition but was driven by his belief that he would be among those most vulnerable politically if the president were defeated.

“I didn’t make that mistake of sleeping to see that the president loses the election. No, because I know they will come for my head,” he said.

Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has remained a prominent supporter of Tinubu, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

His support for Tinubu has continued despite his membership of the PDP and has placed him at odds with sections of his party ahead of the 2027 general election.
