Senate insists there are no expenses to reduce.

Despite the economic hardships caused by the elimination of petroleum subsidies, the Senate has ruled out the possibility of the National Assembly reducing its expenses.

Senator Yemi Adaramodu, chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, told journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Monday that the National Assembly is not culpable for Nigeria’s economic difficulties.

Legislators perform a variety of responsibilities without compensation, including committee work and oversight responsibilities, he said, insisting that demands for them to reduce expenses are invalid.

Adaramodu made the remarks shortly after the tribunal ruled in his favour, affirming the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader’s electoral victory over Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator Biodun Olujimi.
