Election tribunal upholds Gov. Ahmdadu Fintiri’s victory
The governorship election petition tribunal in Yola has affirmed the win of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in the state’s April 15th governorship election.
Mr. Fintiri was the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate. His election was disputed by the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) second-place finisher, Dr. Umaru Ardo.
The three-member panel, led by Theodora Obi, ruled that the SDP and its candidate could not prove that the election was rigged and that the electoral act had been violated.
The decision was made public on Monday.
The petition was dismissed by the panel’s three members unanimously on the grounds that it lacked merit.
The tribunal chairman and panel members determined that the SDP and Mr. Ardo’s appeal was not meritorious because the claim of noncompliance could not be established, thereby killing the petition.”
The panel did emphasise, however, that the petition had been dismissed for lack of merit.
Mr. Fintiri received 430,861 votes to defeat Mrs. Dahiru, who received 398,788 votes.
Dr. Umaru Ardo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) placed in third place.
