Police Arrest 16 Suspects in Connection with Kidnapping in Abuja

There have been 16 infamous criminals arrested and weapons and ammunition seized in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) since the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) was recently established by Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

Three 27-year-old men from Bwari, Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu, were paraded as suspects on Saturday. They are wanted for a string of armed robberies and kidnappings in the Bwari Local Government Area and elsewhere in Abuja.

The united team of operatives apprehended thirteen suspects for different other crimes, according to Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi’s statement.

According to the statement, “amongst the achievements reported is the foiling of another abduction operation through technical intelligence,” which led to the capture of the persons mentioned above, who were based in Bwari, and the recovery of weapons from them.

“In a proactive move, police operatives in an intelligence-propelled investigation have discovered that a victim was being taken to Kano State, but at Kaduna, four armed men disguised in a white Mercedes-Benz 230 car took his ATM cards and transferred five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000.00) from his account. The victim’s Hilux Van with Reg. No. RBC 90 DL Grey colour was also taken.

Unfortunately, the suspects’ luck ran out when police in Kaduna stopped them at a gas station. Out of the four, three managed to flee, while one, Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael, was taken into custody. Both the victim and the aforementioned Hilux Van emerged from the incident unscathed. Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael and his accomplices were found to have been detained in November 2023 and charged with identical acts before the High Court, Kwali, Abuja. However, while out on bail, they committed even more serious crimes.

Also, while negotiating the acquisition and supply of illicit firearms and ammunition, agents of the DFI-IRT office intercepted one Everest Magaji, a gunrunner, who is currently at large. The suspect was found to be in possession of eleven pistols and two pump action firearms.
