“We Don’t Know What to Charge Emefiele With,” says Akpabio, referring to the economic mess that he left:

According to Godswill Akpabio, president of the senate, the present Bola Tinubu administration has ruined the Nigerian economy, which was created by the policies of Godwin Emefiele, who was the central bank governor in the past.

On Sunday, Senator Barinada Mpigi held a Thanksgiving service in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State, where the Senate President delivered a speech.

You cannot know Washington until you go to Washington, I remember President Obama saying that. So, many people will not realise the magnitude of our debt and economic crisis.

So, by the time we entered to assess the country’s economic status, it was disastrous. As you are aware, when I was governor of the central bank, we were at a loss as to what charges to press against him. I am unsure of the charges that will be levied against him; they may be for printing notes without income, illegally possessing a pistol, or adding foam to the bill.

We acknowledge that there is hunger today as a result of their policies and actions; I believe every political party should acknowledge this; and we are fighting to make sure that Nigerians sleep well tonight, Akpabio stated.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom State reassured the people of Nigeria that their government is working to end insecurity and improve food security, but he pleaded with them to be patient since fixing problems that have festered for 60 years will take more than six months.

Yes, there is instability; we are fighting for the right of all Nigerians to have three healthy meals each day. However, you can have faith that we campaigned hard for this position and across the nation. We promise not to disappoint you and will thoroughly investigate the matter; all we ask for is your patience.

“That corruption in Nigeria that has persisted for nearly 60 years cannot be remedied in a span of six months,” he declared.

The federal government is prosecuting Emefiele on accusations that seem to involve financial crimes, following his ouster as head of the CBN in June 2023 by President Bola Tinubu.

The former CBN governor’s criminal charges were revised by the federal government on January 18.

From six counts to twenty-one, the charges were raised. Emefiele faced allegations of criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to conduct forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit a felony throughout the amendment.
