Poll: Edo raises alarm over detention of PDP leaders.
The Edo State Government issued a statement on Tuesday condemning the detention of Peoples Democratic Party officials and requesting security agents to halt the arrest.
This was mentioned in a statement released on Tuesday by Chris Nehikhare, the state commissioner for communication and orientation.
According to Nehikhare, the All Progressives Congress was behind the detention.
Nehikhare said that the APC had imprisoned around ten PDP leaders, including Collins Aigbogun, Chairman of the Esan West Local Government Area.
He urged security agents to prevent the arrests of PDP officials and supporters in the state ahead of the governorship election on September 21, 2024.
He stated that no amount of intimidation would help the APC win the governorship race.
He responded, “Let the APC tell us where our members and leaders are.” Why haven’t they faced legal action after being arrested? Instead, the APC has boasted about its preparations to target, intimidate, and harass PDP members and supporters. Nehikhare required.
However, Kazeem Afegbua, Media Director of the Edo APC Campaign Council, exonerated the PDP, pointing out that the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, had previously stated that his party was willing to burn down Nigeria.
Following a meeting yesterday, Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Government House, Afegbua disclosed the Edo State Governor’s latest initiative.
“Take note that others who were complicit in the death of Inspector Akor Onu were also present and have yet to submit to the Nigeria Police. We understand that one Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sanni Fodio, who is the Head of the State Criminal Investigation Department, is protecting these individuals, boasting that no one would harm them.
“ACP Sanni Fodio is collaborating with the CSO at Governor Obaseki to coordinate some of these issues.” For example, just week, Commander 4th Brigade arrested seven of our members and three PDP members in Inikorogha and handed them over to the police.
“Before you say Jack Robbinson, the ACP in charge of State CID immediately freed those PDP members, but our legal team didn’t intervene until Sunday,” continued the officer.
“Governor Obaseki’s current plan is to shut down Edo State beginning September 15th through a mass protest, with other PDP-controlled states joining in to invite the military to take over power at the federal level.
He reportedly advised the gathering that additional PDP-controlled states would postpone school start dates in order to stage a statewide protest that would result in a military takeover.
“He reportedly informed them that he would rather upset the country and force a change of administration than lose Edo State to the opposition APC. He stated that this is why he decided to postpone the school reopening date, and that other PDP-controlled states will follow suit beginning this week.
