INEC to hold stakeholders’ meeting as 2027 elections draw closer
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold a national stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, October 6, as preparations intensify for the 2027 general election.
The commission said the meeting would provide updates on preparations for the polls, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address the gathering alongside key stakeholders involved in the elections.
“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” INEC said.
The commission said the engagement reflected its commitment to transparency, proactive public communication and collaboration with stakeholders.
Political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups are expected to attend.
Others include disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.
The meeting comes as preparations for the 2027 elections enter a crucial stage.
INEC’s timetable schedules the presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are expected to hold on March 6.
The commission has already outlined activities leading to the polls, including political party primaries, candidate nominations and other pre-election processes.
Amupitan, who assumed office as INEC chairman in October 2025, has pledged that the commission will work towards delivering free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive elections.
The stakeholders’ meeting will hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, with attendance strictly by invitation.
INEC said accredited journalists and invited guests would be required to present accreditation badges or invitation cards at security checkpoints.
The event will also be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through INEC’s official social media platforms.
