I Will Swear With Holy Quran, El-Rufai denies allegations of corruption.
Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, denied on Tuesday that his administration embezzled funds and promised to use a Quranic oath to establish his innocence.
El-Rufai made it clear that he entered politics not to enrich himself or steal from the government, but to serve the people.
This was spoken by him in Kaduna, on a Hausa program that was broadcasted on Freedom Radio in the capital of the state.
My goal in entering politics was not to amass wealth for myself. “I was content with my life before I became governor,” the ex-governor stated.
I have never done anything without first praying for direction, and I will never let the people’s faith slip. I would join the other leaders, including the previous governor of Kaduna State, in swearing with the Quran that they never embezzled public funds as soon as they are ready. Knowing that I have never stolen from the people gives me peace of mind.
I have submitted to God’s will in every matter.I shall keep my mouth shut about it because I have prayed about it. For the time being, though, I’m going to devote myself to reading and writing, and I have already told my solicitors to sue anyone who taints my reputation.
The ex-governor dropped hints about his future political move when he said he intends to return to politics in 2027, after finishing his studies.
He maintains that one cannot retire from politics.
After his administration was indicted for the eight-year theft of N423 billion by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, he made his statement.
On more than one occasion, members of his cabinet refuted the claims, saying that the report from the House of Assembly was politically driven.
