I’m not desperate for 2027 presidential ticket – Obi
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, has stated that he is not seeking a ‘free ticket’ or’special treatment’ for the 2027 election.
Obi, speaking through his media aide Ibrahim Umar, was reacting to a recent interview in which the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, denied that the party planned to field Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and some 2023 candidates in the next election.
The retort comes just a few days after the party’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, stated that the former Anambra State governor would run against President Bola Tinubu for re-election.
When asked if the LP actually intends to field Obi in 2027, Obiora Ifoh, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, denied the claim. While hinting that the narrative was inaccurate, Ifoh assured our reporter that the report could not have come from the Julius Abure camp.
When asked how Obi was handling Abure’s ‘no automatic ticket’ threat, Umar responded that his principal was unconcerned about such trivialities.
He stated, “Our principal, Peter Obi, is unwavering in his dedication to democracy and the well-being of all Nigerians. He has continuously emphasised the need of good democracy and robust competition, recognising that these elements are necessary for a functioning democratic environment.
It is important to highlight that Peter Obi has never requested a complimentary ticket or special treatment. Instead, he has consistently highlighted the importance of a level playing field in which everyone can compete equally and freely.
We urge our supporters and the entire public to remain focused on the issues that genuinely matter, rather than being misled by false narratives.”Peter Obi’s commitment to fostering good government, economic progress, and social fairness is steadfast.
Let us work together to create a better future for Nigeria, guided by the principles of democracy, fairness, and equality. “Our principal’s actions and decisions will continue to be driven by these values, ensuring that Nigeria remains on a path towards prosperity and greatness.”
