Adamawa rolls out red carpet for Tinubu as state unveils roads, schools, justice infrastructure
The Adamawa state commissioner for information, James Iliya, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled commissioning of key projects in Yola as a “defining moment” for the state’s infrastructure and institutional development.
In a statement issued ahead of the president’s visit on Monday 16 February 2026, Iliya said a cluster of road, education and judicial projects would be inaugurated in what he characterised as a coordinated push to improve public services and stimulate economic activity.
At the heart of the programme is the commissioning of the newly completed eight-lane Galadima Aminu Way, a 2.6km stretch designed to ease pressure on traffic within the state capital. The project also includes an underpass at the Fire Service roundabout and the dualisation of Gimba Road, covering 1.1km.
Iliya said the expanded road network was expected to reduce congestion, improve safety and encourage commercial growth in Yola.
“These strategic arteries will decongest the metropolis, enhance connectivity and support businesses operating along these corridors,” he said, adding that the underpass would address long-standing traffic bottlenecks at one of the city’s busiest junctions.
The president is also due to formally commission 21 model schools located across Adamawa’s three senatorial zones. According to Iliya, the schools are equipped with laboratories, libraries and digital learning facilities aimed at improving standards in public education.
“The model schools project reflects our commitment to raising educational outcomes and providing a more conducive learning environment for pupils,” he said.
Also on the itinerary is the groundbreaking ceremony for a new National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Malkohi, Yola. Iliya said the permanent facility would replace temporary arrangements previously used to host corps members posted to the state.
In the judicial sector, Tinubu is expected to inaugurate a multipurpose hall at the High Court of Justice complex in Yola. The commissioner said the facility would support conferences, legal proceedings and other official engagements, strengthening the administration of justice.
Other projects slated for commissioning include an automated gate at the Government House and a remodelled governor’s office, described by Iliya as part of wider efforts to modernise governance infrastructure and enhance security.
He said the projects reflected collaboration between the state and federal governments and formed part of a broader plan to reposition Adamawa as a centre of commerce, education and justice in the north-east.
Security has been tightened in Yola ahead of the visit, with officials expressing confidence that the events would proceed without disruption.
