Bakari courts APC leaders, positions self as Fintiri successor
Dr Salihu Bakari Girie has formally presented his ambition and a 10 point agenda to the new leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State, led by Hamza Madagali, positioning himself early in the race for the state’s top office.
The presentation, made during a meeting with party stakeholders, set out his policy direction and outlined priorities he said would guide his administration if elected.

Party sources said the move has placed Bakari among the more clearly defined aspirants within the APC, with supporters pointing to what they describe as a focused agenda and a track record of public engagement.
Bakari, who has been active in the state’s political space for years, told party leaders that his ambition is anchored on practical governance and disciplined implementation of policies.
He also stressed the need for inclusivity, noting that his support base cuts across different sectors of Adamawa’s cultural and political landscape.
Observers at the meeting described his backing as broad, with professionals, community leaders and party stakeholders drawn from various parts of the state.
Supporters argue that this spread reflects a growing coalition that could strengthen his chances in the contest, while also positioning him as a unifying figure within the party.
They further maintain that his experience and familiarity with the state’s political terrain place him in a strong position to take on the responsibilities of leadership.
Bakari is among several figures expected to seek the APC ticket ahead of the next governorship election, which will see a successor emerge to Governor Ahmad Umaru Fintiri.
While the contest is still in its early stages, political watchers say early engagement with party leadership and clear articulation of policy priorities may prove decisive as the race gathers momentum.
