Adamawa 2027: Girei promises reforms in education, health and jobs

Dr Salihu Bakari Girei, an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Adamawa State, has unveiled a 10 point development agenda, setting out what he described as a comprehensive blueprint to accelerate growth, reduce poverty and reposition the state’s economy.

Girei, a former public servant with experience at both state and federal levels, said his vision is anchored on years of administrative and policy work across key sectors. He holds four academic degrees, including a doctorate, and has worked extensively in education, governance and institutional development.

He said Adamawa, despite its agricultural endowment and solid mineral resources, continues to underperform in human capital development, healthcare delivery and job creation. According to him, insecurity and communal tensions have further deepened poverty and slowed economic progress.

The APC aspirant said his agenda is designed to deliver immediate relief in areas such as food security, healthcare access, safety and employment, while laying the foundation for long term transformation through skills development, agro processing and institutional reforms.

The framework spans education, agriculture, solid minerals development, rural infrastructure, healthcare, sports development, security, youth empowerment, traditional institutions and civil service reform.

On education, Girei pledged to rehabilitate schools, improve teacher quality and tackle the problem of out of school children. He said his previous experience at the State Universal Basic Education Board would guide investments in infrastructure, training and incentives, particularly for teachers in rural communities.

In agriculture, he proposed expanding mechanisation, improving access to inputs and promoting agro allied industries to boost value addition and create jobs. He also highlighted plans to strengthen irrigation systems and farming cooperatives.

On healthcare, Girei said his administration would upgrade hospitals, strengthen primary healthcare services and provide free medical care for vulnerable groups. He also proposed the establishment of a teaching hospital and improved incentives to attract medical professionals.

He identified youth empowerment as central to his agenda, with emphasis on skills development, entrepreneurship and digital innovation as responses to rising unemployment.

Girei also outlined plans to improve rural infrastructure, enhance security through community based approaches and strengthen traditional institutions as partners in governance.

On the civil service, he promised timely payment of salaries, merit based promotions and digital reforms to improve efficiency, alongside welfare support for retirees.

He said implementation would begin within his first 100 days in office, followed by sustained reforms aimed at measurable progress by 2031.

Girei pledged to govern with transparency, accountability and inclusiveness, expressing confidence that effective leadership could transform Adamawa’s socio economic outlook.
