Adamawa Information Commissioner, James Iliya, to contest Demsa Assembly seat under APC

The Adamawa State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, James Iliya, is set to contest for the Demsa Constituency seat in the Adamawa State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Iliya was at the APC secretariat in Yola on Tuesday where he submitted his expression of interest form to party officials. Speaking with journalists shortly after the submission, the commissioner expressed confidence in his chances, stating that the overwhelming support and love shown to him by the people of Demsa had encouraged him to join the race.

According to him, the decision to contest was informed by persistent calls from youths, community leaders and party supporters who believe he can effectively represent the constituency at the state assembly.

Sources within the APC in Demsa Local Government Area disclosed that consultations and political mobilisation are already ongoing across communities in the constituency as supporters intensify campaigns ahead of the party primaries.

Party stakeholders believe the commissioner possesses the experience, grassroots connection and administrative capacity needed to effectively represent the people of Demsa.

Iliya, who has served as commissioner under the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, is widely regarded as one of the prominent political figures from the area. His role in coordinating government information and public communication has further increased his visibility across the state.

A party chieftain in Demsa said Iliya’s entrance into the race would strengthen the APC in the constituency and provide credible opposition politics in the area.

“James Iliya understands governance and the challenges facing the people. Many party members believe he can provide quality representation if elected into the assembly,” the source stated.

Political observers say the contest for the Demsa Constituency seat is expected to attract considerable attention as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections in Adamawa State.
