Dr Salihu Bakari Girei Showcases Scorecards, Seeks APC Support in Four Adamawa LGAs
One of the leading governorship aspirants in Adamawa State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Salihu Bakari Girei, has presented his record of public service to party members in Madagali, Michika, Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas as consultations ahead of the party’s primary election gather momentum.
Girei spoke during separate meetings with party stakeholders, supporters and loyalists across the four local government areas, where he canvassed support for his governorship ambition.
The former executive chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board said his achievements in public office remained visible across Adamawa and could be verified by residents of the state.
According to him, his administration at SUBEB constructed storey classroom blocks across the state, distributed free uniforms to pupils in primary schools, ensured prompt payment of teachers’ salaries and improved incentives for education workers.
“During my tenure as executive chairman of SUBEB, we constructed storey classroom blocks across the state. We provided free uniforms to pupils in primary schools and ensured prompt payment of teachers’ salaries and other incentives,” he said.
Girei also recalled his time as commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, saying he facilitated salary support for local government councils facing difficulties in paying workers.
He added that he initiated programmes aimed at empowering women and youths while attracting projects to tertiary institutions through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
“These achievements were recorded when I was not even governor,” he said.
The APC chieftain also unveiled what he described as a “Ten Covenant Document for Adamawa State”, outlining his proposed agenda if elected governor in 2027.
He said his administration would prioritise education through the provision of free learning materials, training and retraining of teachers and improved welfare for education personnel.
Girei also pledged to tackle poverty, improve healthcare delivery, strengthen traditional institutions, enhance security, provide rural infrastructure and reform the civil service.
Describing himself as the most qualified among the governorship aspirants, he cited his experience, track record and knowledge of the state.
“The greatest mistake APC can make is to hand over its ticket to someone who cannot win an election,” he said.
He also praised the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, saying the state should not allow inexperienced politicians to reverse existing gains.
“Governor Fintiri has performed credibly well for the state and Adamawa should not jeopardise its future by entrusting leadership to amateur politicians,” he added.
Earlier, the director general of the SBG Campaign Organisation, Hon Phanuel Elias Mosu, described Girei as a tested administrator whose achievements remained visible across the state.
Mosu said the aspirant required little introduction because of his longstanding record in public service.
According to him, Girei possesses extensive knowledge of Adamawa and remains the only aspirant whose achievements can easily be verified across the state.
He appealed to party members to support Girei during the forthcoming primary election, expressing confidence that he would take the state to greater heights if elected.
Party faithfuls who spoke during the meetings commended Girei for what they described as his integrity, honesty and commitment to public service.
They pledged support for his ambition and prayed for his emergence as the next governor of Adamawa State.
Highlights of the visits included strategic meetings with party leaders, women and youth groups aimed at mobilising wider support for Girei’s governorship bid.
