Presidency insists Tinubu will not impose Adamawa governorship candidate

The Presidency has denied endorsing any aspirant in the race for the 2027 Adamawa State governorship election, dismissing claims circulating in political circles that a preferred candidate had already emerged with backing from the Villa.

Sources close to the Presidency said President Bola Tinubu remained committed to internal democracy within the ruling All Progressives Congress and would not impose candidates on party members ahead of the 2027 elections.

The clarification followed growing speculation in Adamawa political circles over alleged presidential backing for one of the aspirants seeking the APC governorship ticket.

Party insiders said the Presidency was concerned that premature endorsement claims could deepen divisions within the party and undermine ongoing consultations among stakeholders. Similar denials have recently emerged in other states where aspirants claimed support from the President or top federal officials.

An APC source familiar with developments in Adamawa said all aspirants would be given a level playing field during the party’s nomination process.

The development comes amid heightened political activities in Adamawa, where several influential politicians are positioning themselves for the 2027 governorship contest under both the APC and opposition platforms.
