Former pro democracy activist Osa Director emerges National Publicity Secretary of Nigeria Democratic Congress

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has appointed veteran journalist, lawyer and pro democracy advocate, Osa Director, as its new National Publicity Secretary as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s communication structure ahead of future political engagements.

The party also announced the appointment of seasoned media professionals, Peter Agbo Ekele and Lawal Sabo Ibrahim, as Deputy National Publicity Secretaries.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Working Committee on May 16, 2026, the NDC said the appointments reflected its determination to build a strong communication framework founded on professionalism, integrity and democratic principles.

According to the party, Osa Director brings decades of experience in journalism, legal practice, media management and democratic advocacy to the position.

He rose to prominence during Nigeria’s pro democracy struggle as a journalist with TELL Magazine, one of the country’s leading publications during military rule. The party noted that his commitment to press freedom and democratic ideals led to his detention under the regime of late General Sani Abacha.

Director, who is also a co founder and former Editor in Chief of INSIDER WEEKLY Magazine, was credited with making major contributions to investigative journalism and public accountability in Nigeria.

He later founded the law firm, Osa Director and Co., extending his influence into legal practice and public affairs.

The NDC further highlighted his academic and professional background, stating that he possesses qualifications in Biochemistry, Management, Law, Media and Communications, as well as Corporate Governance, with certifications from institutions including University of Cambridge and Leeds Metropolitan University.

On Peter Agbo Ekele, the party described him as an accomplished journalist and editor with more than a decade of experience in the Nigerian media industry.

A graduate of English Language from Ahmadu Bello University, Ekele has served in several editorial capacities, including Reporter, News Editor, Group News Editor and Editor, at media organisations such as New Nigerian, National Accord and LEADERSHIP Newspapers.

He currently serves as Editor in Chief of The Cabal Newspaper.

The party also praised Lawal Sabo Ibrahim for his broad experience across journalism, publishing and academia.

Ibrahim holds degrees in English Education and English Language from the University of Jos and Bayero University.

Over the years, he has worked as a lecturer at Kano State Polytechnic and held senior editorial positions at Peoples Daily and LEADERSHIP Newspapers.

Between 2017 and 2023, Ibrahim served as Managing Director and Editor in Chief of Triumph Publishing Company.

The NDC expressed confidence that the combined experience and expertise of the three appointees would strengthen the party’s engagement with Nigerians and support its vision of building a democratic, inclusive and prosperous nation.

The party also congratulated the appointees and wished them success in their new responsibilities.
