Fintiri hails Adamawa scholars in Turkey
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has praised Adamawa State students studying in Turkey under the state government’s overseas scholarship programme after receiving reports of outstanding academic performances from their host university.
Fintiri, who visited about 200 Adamawa-sponsored students at Istinye University in Istanbul, said their achievements had vindicated his administration’s investment in education and human capital development.
The students are pursuing various master’s degree programmes under a scholarship initiative that forms a central part of the state’s strategy to build a skilled workforce and prepare young professionals for leadership roles across key sectors.
During the visit, university officials told the governor that the Adamawa students had distinguished themselves academically, recording impressive results across different disciplines. According to the institution’s management, many of the beneficiaries are earning top grades and have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their studies since arriving in Turkey.
The university commended the Adamawa State Government for the programme, describing it as a forward-looking investment whose benefits are already becoming evident through the students’ performances.
Officials said the scholars had consistently upheld the reputation of both Adamawa State and Nigeria, proving that the government’s confidence in them was well placed.
Addressing the students, Fintiri expressed satisfaction with their progress and urged them to sustain the standards that had earned them recognition within the university community.
He stressed that beneficiaries of the scheme were selected strictly on merit, adding that the programme was designed to produce highly skilled professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to the state’s development.
The governor also announced plans to expand the initiative, revealing that arrangements had been concluded to sponsor another 200 students to undertake master’s degree programmes in Australia and Canada.
Describing education as one of the most powerful instruments of sustainable development, Fintiri said the overseas scholarship scheme was intended to expose beneficiaries to global knowledge, advanced skills and international best practices that would ultimately benefit Adamawa State.
He urged the students to remain focused, maintain academic excellence and continue serving as worthy ambassadors of the state and the country.
The overseas scholarship programme remains one of the flagship education policies of the Fintiri administration, aimed at developing a new generation of professionals equipped to drive innovation, economic growth and long-term development in Adamawa.
