Kano-Jigawa Customs generates ₦88.9bn in 2026

The Kano-Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has generated ₦88.92bn in revenue so far in 2026, up from the ₦63.07bn collected during the first half of the year.

The deputy comptroller in charge of the command, Umar Adamu, disclosed the figures during a press briefing at the Customs House in Bompai, Kano, on Friday.

Adamu said the command recorded its highest-ever monthly collection in July, generating more than ₦14bn.

He said the command had also intensified operations against smuggling and other breaches of Nigeria’s customs laws.

Items intercepted or detained included 1,491 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 2,928 packs of foreign macaroni, 35 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 19 bags of expired foreign rice, 3,000 jerry cans of foreign vegetable oil and 514 cartons of assorted soap.

Customs officers also intercepted eight truck heads suspected to have been diverted while in transit and seven smuggled vehicles. The items had a combined duty-paid value running into hundreds of millions of naira.

In its operations against the illegal importation of pharmaceutical products, the command seized 712,690 tablets of unregistered medicines and 17,470 vials and ampoules.

The products were handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control for further investigation and appropriate action.

The command also reported intercepting 48 endangered animals on 25 August. They included 15 primates, among them chimpanzees, gorillas and bush babies, as well as four wild cats, including civets and caracals.

Adamu said the seizures demonstrated the command’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s economy, public health, national security and environment through the enforcement of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
