The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to explain the omission of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Kwankwaso, from the final list of candidates for the 2027 elections.
The movement urged its supporters to remain calm while the party explores administrative and legal options to resolve the dispute.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, its spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, expressed concern over the development and called on the NDC leadership to act swiftly within the timeframe prescribed by law.
“We therefore appeal to everyone to remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from speculation while the matter is being addressed through the appropriate administrative and legal channels,” Mohammed said.
The movement maintained that Gwarzo registered with the NDC within the stipulated period and said it was unaware of any court order or pending legal proceedings that could explain his exclusion.
“These circumstances make it imperative for INEC to provide a clear explanation and ensure that the matter receives the attention it deserves,” the statement added.
Citing Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, the group said political parties had 14 days to notify INEC in writing, supported by an affidavit, where the name of a duly nominated candidate was missing from the published list.
It urged the NDC leadership and its legal representatives to examine the provision and take appropriate steps to seek correction of the omission.
The movement also advised the party to assemble relevant documentation, including evidence of registration, nomination records, submitted candidate particulars and official acknowledgements.
“Our understanding is that our candidate complied with the stipulated party-registration requirements. If the records confirm this position and the omission is administrative, we expect the Commission to address the matter transparently and take any corrective action permitted by law,” Mohammed said.
The group stressed that it would not prejudge INEC’s explanation or the outcome of possible legal proceedings.
It warned supporters against confrontation, speculation and the circulation of unverified information, insisting that all grievances must be pursued through lawful channels.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement remains committed to constitutional democracy, electoral justice and respect for the rule of law,” the statement said.
The movement pledged to monitor developments and provide supporters with verified updates as efforts to resolve the dispute continue.
