Tinubu praises son Seyi, urges greater service
President Bola Tinubu has commended his son, Seyi Tinubu, for mobilising young Nigerians through the City Boy Movement, urging him to intensify his activities and set an example for future generations.
Speaking on Monday at an event organised by the movement at the State House, Abuja, Tinubu expressed pride in his son’s involvement in youth mobilisation, particularly his decision to engage young people without seeking political office.
“Now permit me a personal moment, with my son, Seyi. I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” the president said.
Tinubu praised Seyi and other members of the movement for dedicating their time to engaging young Nigerians, listening to their concerns and organising activities aimed at encouraging participation in public affairs.
“You and your young colleagues, you are investing your time effectively. We are with you. Thank you. You did it humbly. You did not ask for a title or an office,” he said.
The president, however, urged his son not to become complacent, stressing that greater responsibilities lay ahead.
“But I will tell you what every father tells his son. You have only started. Do more.
“Go further. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow,” Tinubu said.
He added that young Nigerians should regard service to their country as a responsibility and an honour.
“Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour,” he said.
Seyi, who serves as patron of the City Boy Movement, has been involved in activities supporting his father’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The organisation has undertaken grassroots mobilisation and youth engagement initiatives, including activities aimed at encouraging political participation.
Tinubu’s remarks come amid increasing public attention to his son’s political activities and the movement’s involvement in efforts to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general election.
At his 41st birthday colloquium in Lagos on 12 October, Seyi called on young Nigerians to participate more actively in decision-making and take responsibility for shaping the country’s future.
