The unions also urged their local affiliates to organise demonstrations in every state.

According to Channels Television, the disagreements between the two labour centres’ leaders have been addressed, and the TUC will not be joining the NLC’s two-day warning strike.

The notice of meeting, signed by NLC Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, indicates that the meeting will take place online.

While this is going on, Minister of Labour and Employment Simon Lalong has pleaded with the NLC’s leadership to call off the strike by assuring them that the Federal Government will do what it can to address the issues that have been highlighted.

The minister also mentioned that the release of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers’ leadership was one of the NLC’s main requests from their last conference, and that it had been met.

The ministry spokesman, Olajide Oshundu, issued a statement pleading with labour unions to give the government more time to deal with other issues.

On September 5 and 6, 2023, the NLC went on a two-day warning strike to get the government to do something about the widespread pain felt by Nigerians, particularly the working class.

A joint press briefing was held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, to announce an indefinite nationwide strike after the Federal Government failed to alleviate suffering and other socioeconomic hardships caused by the elimination of subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol.
