Northern Nigerian senators and National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu have voted to have faith in the country’s security apparatus, even though a military drone accidentally hit a community in Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State.   Even though the latest military incident resulted in 85 confirmed deaths and dozens of injuries, Ribadu and the parliamentarians are praising the dedication of security agencies to reduce security concerns in the region.   During his fact finding mission to Tudun Biri hamlet, the NSA who offered the praise also promised that the bombing incident would not be ignored. He assured them that an all-encompassing probe would be launched shortly to prevent a repeat of the occurrence.   In addition to doing an evaluation for the federal government, our purpose in being here is to meet with the victims, their relatives, and the general public in person. It is unfortunate and tragic. It did, however, occur.   The most important things are: how we proceed, what we take away from this, and the precise actions that must be taken, Ribadu emphasised. He lauded the leadership and maturity shown by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani in responding to the tragedy, especially in coordinating the distribution of relief supplies and other necessities to the victims.   Senator Abdul Ningi and the other senators from the north paid a visit to Governor Sani to offer their condolences following the bombing. In spite of their shock and sadness, the senators were quick to praise the government for its efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the North Central and North West geographical zones.   Additionally, they are pleading with Nigerians to set aside their feelings and let the government conduct a comprehensive investigation into the occurrence in order to prevent it from happening again.

Despite acknowledging the legitimacy of protests in a democratic context, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has dismissed a call for his resignation, claiming sponsorship of the movement. Months after Bola Tinubu’s ascension to the presidency, Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, took office as minister of the Federal Capital Territory. However, earlier this week, a group of protesters gathered at the National Assembly with signs calling for his resignation.   Wike insists he is unconcerned by the demonstrations and continues to deviate despite the move.It was brought to my attention yesterday that there were individuals with placards. I just didn’t have the time to even think about that. Something kept me occupied.   While launching the resurfacing of 49 roads in the Asokoro, Wuse, and Maitama regions of Abuja, he made the statement, “I don’t want to be distracted.”. We intend to maintain our concentration and carry out the order that the president has issued.   The fact that this is a democracy, though, is something you absolutely must grasp. The Opinions are held by many, and they should be respected. Your view, however, must be congruent with that which is beneficial to the FCT citizens.   Maintaining our current course of action will not provide any different outcomes.Wike asserted that the demonstrators had received payment.The protests do not worry Wike, he claims.   That being said, let no one be concerned about the fact that they were paid. Yes, the minister clarified, “that ended yesterday” after they had collected the funds.

At the 2023 Second Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament, lawmakers representing the Niger Republic have demanded that the sanctions be lifted against their nation.   To end the political deadlock and restore constitutional rule to the country, they demanded that the military junta step down. While presenting the nation’s 2023 report to the parliament in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr. Amadou Djibo, one of the lawmakers, laid out their stance.   “The sanction has left the citizenry and neighbouring countries that share borders with Niger in dire condition,” Djibo told the ECOWAS Parliament.   We are here per the directives of ECOWAS, which rejects the coup and maintains recognition of Mohamed Bazoum as Niger’s legitimately elected president.   In order to ensure that the people of Niger and the surrounding areas may continue to earn a living, we are pleading with this house to assist in easing the sanctions.   “The way forward is to address the military presence in the country so that democratic process can be restored,” he added, responding to the current political scenario in Niger, which is characterised by a military government.   In July, the military deposed Bazoum and his family and took them into custody.   Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani spearheaded the coup that resulted in the detention of Interior Minister Hamadou Souley. Bazoum had intended to remove Tchiani from his role as commander of the presidential guard.   Nigerians Ali Ndume and Dr. Balarabe Salame, as well as Sierra Leonean Saa Lamina, all backed the call to remove sanctions.   Their main point was that if sanctions were lifted, people in Niger and the surrounding countries would finally be able to breathe.

 In retaliation for the destruction of their stores in Kano State, the Incorporated Trustees of Masalachi Eid Shop Owners and Traders Association sought over N30 billion in damages, and a federal high court in Abuja has approved a garnishee order freezing at least 24 government bank accounts.     The shop owners and dealers had sued the state in June 2023 for demolishing their businesses, which they claimed was an unlawful act. Justice I. E. Ekwo issued the ruling in their favour.   A Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling, which included the order, was signed by the Registrar, Chioma Chijioke, and was made available to newsmen on Wednesday. The ruling was delivered on November 28, 2023.   The following order is being enforced on behalf of the judgement creditors: “A garnisheee order Nisi is hereby made attaching the funds (present and future) of Kano State Government, Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority, KNUPDA, and the Attorney General of Kano State (including, but not limited to, the Kano State FAAC Account and Account No. 1019716320 at UBA and Account No. 1790249410 Polaris Bank) and other accounts in the custody of the respective garnisheees in the amount of N30 billion.    This is to satisfy the judgement of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano per S. A Amobeda, J. dated the 29th September, 2023 herein being enforced in favour of the judgement creditors.”   The cost of the Garnishees’ proceeding is N2 million, and an order is hereby given to grant that sum.   This court has issued an order requiring the garnishees to attend and explain, if they can, why the decree Nisi should not be declared absolute against them. Justice Ekwo, the judge, ruled that judgement creditors must serve the defendants and garnishees at least fourteen days prior to the next hearing date.   Nevertheless, the case was adjourned until January 18, 2024, so Garnishes had ample time to present their case. Fifteen financial institutions, including Nigeria’s Central Bank (CBN), had their accounts suspended.
