COVID-19: Nasarawa enforces ban on social gathering, street begging

The Nasarawa State Government has directed security agencies to enforce the ban on social gathering of persons above 50, including wedding and naming ceremonies.
In a proclamation enforcing the ban, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, on Friday, directed security agencies, government functionaries and traditional rulers, to enforce the ban and ensure compliance by residents.
As part of measures to curb the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus, the state government also restricted entry into the State to between 6: 00am to 8: 00pm, with commuters coming into the State to be screened at various checkpoints/mobile clinics.
The proclamation warned that henceforth, the social distancing directive of the Federal Government is to be strictly complied with. Equally, any child seen begging on the street will be arrested by security agents, to be handed over to the welfare department at both the state and local governments level.
According to the proclamation, all worship centres, such as Mosques and Churches, are to remain closed till further notice, just as all events centres, cinemas and viewing centres, sports arena, clubs and beer parlours are also closed until further notice.
Similarly, all markets are to be closed except sellers of food items, food vendors, and pharmaceutical shops outside the markets.
Accordingly, task force committees are to be established at the local government levels to be supervised by the local government chairmen to ensure compliance with the proclamation and any other directive in this respect, with security patrol intensified to ensure full compliance.
