Breaking: PDP asks Lawan to declare Abbo’s seat vacant
The Adamawa state chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Senate President Ahmed Lawan to declare the seat of Ishaku Abbo, the senator representing Adamawa north in the Nigerian Senate, vacant.
Abbo formally defected to the APC today at the senate chamber.
In a phone interview with our correspondent, Barr. A.T Shehu, the state party chairman, said Abbo’s seat has become vacant in line with section 68 of the constitution because there is no division in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“We are calling on the senate president to invoke the provisions of section 68 of the 1999 constitution (as amended) in declaring the seat of Ishaku Abbo vacant,” the statement read.
“It is not on record that there is division in the PDP, hence this declaration will be a step in the right direction.”
