Internet Disruption in Ghana and Nigeria Caused by Damaged Subsea Cables

Nigerian and Ghanaian internet users, among others, were out Thursday due to damage to three underwater cables off the coast of West Africa.

For hours, customers of affected telecommunications companies and financial institutions were unable to conduct digital transactions or use the internet due to the interruption.

Bloomberg, a top global financial news organisation, reports that on Thursday, all three of the world’s most important sea cables—ACE, MainOne, and the West Africa Cable System—were impacted.

According to a statement from MTN Nigeria, the network outage that its subscribers experienced was caused by “damage to international undersea cables spanning East & West Africa.” However, the exact reason of the cable problems has not been identified yet.

In order to get this fixed as quickly as possible, the repair process is still in progress. “Stay tuned for additional information,” the business announced.
