Malnutrition: UNICEF praises Governor Fintiri for prompt payment of counterpart funds.

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has received praise from UNICEF for leading the nation in addressing malnutrition of all kinds by contributing N100 million to the Child Nutrition Fund.

When the Adamawa State Food Nutrition Policy and Multi-Sectoral Strategic Plan were unveiled at the Yola banquet hall, the laudatory remarks were made by Dr Tushar Rane, Chief of Field Office Bauchi.

In her capacity as nutritional specialist, Mrs. Philomena Irene represented Dr. Rane, and she was pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Adamawa State Government to help the state’s women and children.

Poor nutrition, she said, leads to immediate consequences, whereas excellent nutrition promotes health and wellness. She brought attention to the Child Nutrition Fund (CNF), a fresh funding mechanism that aims to hasten the expansion of long-term strategies, initiatives, and resources to eradicate child malnutrition.

“So, I want to congratulate the Adamawa State Government on their journey to solving nutrition problems. They’ve done this by developing a cost-effective multi-sectoral strategy plan and officially establishing the Nutrition Policy.

To ensure that every kid in need is safeguarded and has the right to survive, develop, and reach their full potential, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri thanked all the partners locally and internationally, notably UNICEF, for their relentless financial and technical support.

“Our commitment to eliminate all types of malnutrition reflects on our understanding that the fight involves more than just food distribution,” said Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, who was representing him, in a statement.

A comprehensive approach that tackles the underlying issues of malnutrition, such as multidimensional poverty, school gaps, and insufficient healthcare. Considering proper nourishment to be fundamental to human health.

In a statement, Governor Fintiri emphasised that his administration will tackle nutritional issues directly through an all-encompassing plan that involves several levels of government and many sectors.

His position was that the Adamawa State Policy on Food and Nutrition is not only paper but rather a road map for what needs to be done.

In light of this important cause, he called on all parties involved to work together with him to end malnutrition in the state.
The significance of proper nutrition to the body was earlier emphasised by Felix B. Tangwami, the State Commissioner of Health and Human Services, in his speech.

“When we don’t have food to eat, we’re likely to have an unbalanced diet. And when our diets are unbalanced, our bodies don’t get enough nutrients from our ‘poor diets.’ It leads to weight loss and anaemia, which is more common in children under five, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.”

“Nutrition as we all know is a multi sectoral and multi disciplinary issue that affects multiple sectors such as health, agric, education; science and technology,” he announced.

Tangwami sincerely appreciated Governor Fintiri for his steadfast dedication to rescuing the state from the threat and urged the public to keep praying for the government’s success.
