Tinubu Appoints Bwala, Dare as Onanuga’s Co-Spokespersons
President Bola Tinubu has announced a cabinet shake-up, naming Sunday Dare and Daniel Bwala as co-spokespersons for Bayo Onanuga.
According to a statement issued late Monday by the Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, there is no longer a single individual serving as the president’s spokeswoman, and Sunday Dare and Daniel Bwala will now work together in his office as spokespersons.
The president noted that the shakeup is intended to ensure effective and consistent communication of government policies, actions, and engagements.
“To improve the effectiveness of the government’s communication machinery, President Bola Tinubu has re-designated the positions of two newly appointed officials in the State House media and communications team.
“The rearrangement goes as follows: Sunday Dare, previously Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation, is now Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications.
“Mr Daniel Bwala, who was appointed Special Adviser for Media and Public Communication last week, is now Special Adviser for Policy Communication.
“These appointments, combined with the existing function of Special Adviser, Information, and Strategy, demonstrate that the Presidency does not have a single individual spokesperson.
“Instead, all the three Special Advisers will collectively serve as spokespersons for the government.”
In October, Tinubu fired five ministers and appointed seven new ones.
The president also relocated ten ministers to new roles, according to his office.
Uju-Ken Ohanenye, former Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, former Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development, have all been fired.
Nentawe Yilwatda, Muhammadu Dingyadi, Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu, Jumoke Oduwole, Idi Maiha, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, and Suwaiba Ahmad are the newly appointed ministers who would still need Senate confirmation.
The presidency stated that the firing and appointments are part of “eight far-reaching actions to reinvigorate the Administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency under his commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.”
The president also approved the implementation of eight far-reaching initiatives to reenergise the administration’s ability for maximum efficiency, as part of his commitment to fulfilling his commitments to Nigerians.
The eight agreed actions include changing the Ministry of Nigeria Delta Development to Ministry of Regional Development, which will manage all Regional Development Commission activities. The new Ministry will oversee four Regional Development Commissions: the Niger Delta Development Commission, the South East Development Commission, the North East Development Commission, and the North West Development Commission.
2. The Ministry of Sports Development will be dissolved and its functions transferred to the National Sports Commission to promote a thriving sports economy. 3. The Federal Ministries of Tourism and Arts and Culture will merge to form the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy.
4. Re-assign ten (10) ministers to new portfolios. 5. Discharge five (5) ministers.
6. The nomination of seven (7) new ministers for transmission to the Senate for approval.
7. The appointment of Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission.
8. The appointment of Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, reporting to the Ministry of Information and National Orientation
