Fubara’s Aide Says Assembly Complex  Almost Complete, Blames Wike for Pipeline Attacks

The administration of suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has strenuously denied allegations that he failed to avert terrorist threats and attacks on state oil infrastructure.

In a statement issued Thursday, Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, labelled the claims as unfounded and the consequence of misinformation presented to the Presidency by persons who failed to present factual reports.

According to Chukwudi, Fubara has stayed strong in his dedication to keeping peace and protecting important oil infrastructure.

He stated that the recent tensions in the Niger Delta were mostly caused by contentious remarks made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during a media interview.

He claimed Wike downgraded the role of the Ijaw ethnic group in national politics, prompting significant protests from Ijaw leaders, youth groups, and militants, some of whom requested an apology from the minister.

Chukwudi underlined that Fubara has continuously campaigned for the preservation of oil installations. He cited Fubara’s previous service on the Presidential Committee on the Protection of Oil Installations, as well as his repeated public statements advocating for regional peace and economic stability.

“As a responsible leader, Governor Fubara has continuously invested in security agencies, providing modern equipment, vehicles, gunboats, and even helicopters to support law enforcement efforts in the state,” according to a statement.

“His unwavering commitment to peace has contributed to increased oil production and revenue for the country since assuming office on May 29, 2023.”

Chukwudi addressed concerns regarding the demolition of the State House of Assembly Chambers in Port Harcourt, stating that the decision was based on expert opinions.

He recalled that during his stint as governor, Wike had decried the facility’s deteriorating condition and refused requests for government involvement.

He stated that following the October 29, 2023 incident that resulted in the demolition, the Rivers State Government began reconstruction operations, and the project is currently nearly 80% complete.

The statement also cited the calm local government elections held on October 5, 2024, as proof of Fubara’s dedication to stability.
However, it denounced violent attacks on council secretariats by purported FCT minister supporters.

Chukwudi urged security officials to examine the true culprits of violence in the state, warning against making unfounded charges against Fubara.

“It is false to suggest that Governor Fubara, who has consistently preached peace even in the face of provocation, would endorse attacks on oil pipelines or any form of violence,” according to his conclusion.
