FACT CHECK: No Record of Fintiri endorsing any Governorship Candidate for Adamawa 2027
Social media posts claiming that Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has endorsed a successor for the 2027 Adamawa governorship election are not supported by any verifiable evidence.
On Sunday, online reports alleged that the governor had endorsed Tijani Galadima for the race. Another claim surfaced on Monday alleging that Fintiri had also backed Comrade Salihu Mustapha, a former APC zonal chairman.
No official statement from the Adamawa state government, the governor’s office or verified representatives of Fintiri confirming either endorsement could be found.
The claims therefore remain unsubstantiated.
Mustapha has previously attracted controversy within the APC following the party’s North East zonal endorsement meeting in Gombe, where he reportedly failed to mention Vice President Kashim Shettima while endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.
He was also accused during the Ganye state assembly bye election of involvement in the removal of ballot boxes, allegations that became part of wider political disputes at the time.
However, none of those events provide evidence that Governor Fintiri has formally adopted him as a preferred successor.
Fintiri’s political style in Adamawa has generally involved consultations with stakeholders, particularly during local government elections, where candidates for chairmanship and councillorship positions were often selected after meetings with party leaders and community representatives.
There is also no public record showing that the governor has convened governorship aspirants or announced support for any candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
Verdict
The claim that Governor Fintiri has endorsed a governorship candidate for the 2027 Adamawa election is unverified.
No credible evidence currently exists to show that the governor has publicly backed Tijani Galadima, Salihu Mustapha or any other aspirant.
