Your Ambition Is a Joke Taken Too Far, Kumangar Tells Salihu Mustapha

A former Permanent Secretary in the Adamawa State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Solomon Kumangar, has launched a scathing attack on the governorship ambition of Salihu Mustapha, describing it as “a joke taken too far” ahead of the 2027 governorship race in the state.

Kumangar challenged Mustapha to give an account of his stewardship during his years as the North East Zonal Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, insisting that public office holders seeking higher political responsibilities must first justify their contributions to society.

Speaking on the growing political activities within the APC in Adamawa State, Kumangar questioned how many sons and daughters of the state benefited from Mustapha’s influence and position while he served as a top party official in the North East.

According to him, political ambition should not merely be driven by personal desire or media campaigns, but by visible records of service, empowerment and commitment to the people.

“Before aspiring to govern Adamawa State, he should tell the people what he has done for them over the years. How many Adamawa youths did he empower? How many people benefited from his years as zonal chairman of the APC?” Kumangar queried.

He further criticised what he described as a “motor park approach” to politics, warning that such tactics would not help anyone secure the governorship ticket of the APC in the state.

Kumangar argued that the people of Adamawa were politically conscious and would not be swayed by populist theatrics or political noise ahead of the elections.

He warned that if the APC eventually hands its governorship ticket to Mustapha, the party could be setting itself up for failure in the 2027 election.

“If at all the APC gives him the ticket, then the party would have railroaded itself to failure because leadership is beyond propaganda and crowd mobilisation,” he said.

The former permanent secretary maintained that anyone seeking to govern Adamawa State must possess a clear track record of integrity, grassroots connection and measurable contributions to the development of the people.

He added that the APC in Adamawa must be careful in choosing its candidate if the party truly intends to reclaim power in the state during the next governorship election.
