Editorial: Thank You Governor Fintiri for Making a New Adamawa Possible
Leadership is often measured not by promises made during campaigns, but by the visible impact left on the lives of ordinary people. In Adamawa State today, the signs of transformation are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
Seven years after Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri assumed office, Adamawa is witnessing a remarkable shift from years of neglect and slow development to a state gradually redefining its future through infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and social reforms.
For many citizens, the difference between the Adamawa of yesterday and that of today is clear.
Roads that once hindered movement and economic activities are now connecting communities and opening up rural areas for trade and investment. Major infrastructure projects within Yola and other parts of the state have modernised the environment and improved transportation. Across several communities, development is no longer an abstract political promise but a visible reality.
The education sector has equally received renewed attention. The establishment of new schools, rehabilitation of learning facilities, recruitment of teachers, and revival of scholarship programmes demonstrate a government that understands the importance of investing in human capital. Young people who once feared limited opportunities can now aspire to compete globally.
Healthcare delivery has also improved considerably. New healthcare centres, upgraded hospitals, and the recruitment of medical personnel are helping to bridge the gap between urban and rural healthcare services. For many families, access to medical care is no longer as difficult as it once was.
Perhaps more importantly, the administration has prioritised programmes aimed at empowering youths, women, farmers, and small business owners. In a period of economic hardship across the country, these interventions have provided relief and opportunities for thousands of residents striving for a better future.
The creation of new chiefdoms and emirates also addressed long standing historical concerns among several communities, strengthening inclusion and social harmony across the state.
No administration is without challenges, and much work still remains to be done. Development is a continuous process that demands consistency, accountability, and sustained commitment. However, it is equally important to acknowledge genuine progress where it exists.
Governor Fintiri’s administration has succeeded in restoring something many citizens had gradually lost over the years: hope.
Today, many residents speak about Adamawa with renewed confidence and pride. The state is increasingly being recognised not for stagnation, but for visible growth and expanding opportunities.
This transformation did not happen by accident. It required vision, political will, and the determination to confront years of infrastructural decay and institutional weakness.
As Adamawa continues on this path of development, the responsibility now is to sustain and expand these gains so that every community and every citizen can fully benefit from the new direction of the state.
For making a new Adamawa possible and restoring belief in the future, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri deserves appreciation.
