From roads to schools: How Fintiri’s administration transformed Adamawa in seven years
Seven years after Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri assumed office, Adamawa has witnessed major transformation across infrastructure, education, healthcare, housing, agriculture, and economic empowerment, reshaping both urban and rural communities.
Key achievements of the administration include the construction of major roads, flyovers, and rural access routes across the 21 local government areas, alongside the completion of a 1,000 unit housing estate in Malkohi and improvements in electricity and water supply projects.
In education, the government established 21 Model Basic Education Schools and three Mega Senior Science Secondary Schools, revived foreign scholarship programmes, renovated schools, recruited teachers, and strengthened enrolment initiatives through BESDA and the HOPE Education Programme.
Healthcare reforms saw the construction of more than 100 Primary Healthcare Centres, upgrades of hospitals in Yola, Numan, Mubi, and Ganye, introduction of free kidney treatment programmes, and the recruitment of over 2,000 health professionals.
The administration also expanded youth and women empowerment programmes through grants, entrepreneurship training, agricultural support schemes, and the Fintiri Business Wallet initiative aimed at boosting small businesses and reducing poverty.
Fiscal reforms and governance measures improved Adamawa’s standing in transparency and ease of doing business rankings, while regular salary payments and worker incentives strengthened confidence in the civil service.
The creation of new chiefdoms and emirates, alongside youth engagement initiatives, also contributed to social stability and improved community relations across the state.
