Fintiri suspends Executive Secretary, Post Primary Schools Management Board over alleged irregularities

Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has approved the immediate suspension of the executive secretary of the state Post-Primary Schools Management Board, Birsan Penuel, over alleged irregularities in the discharge of his official duties.

The governor’s chief press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, announced the suspension in a statement issued on Sunday.

Wonosikou said the decision was intended to allow a thorough investigation into the allegations. He added that the board’s most senior director had been directed to oversee its affairs pending the outcome of the inquiry and ensure that its activities continued without disruption.

Fintiri said his administration remained committed to reforming the education sector and improving service delivery across the state.

“This administration remains committed to sanitising and repositioning the education sector for improved service delivery,” the governor said.

He listed the recruitment of qualified teachers, rehabilitation and construction of classrooms, provision of instructional materials, and regular payment of salaries and allowances among measures introduced by his administration over the past seven years.

According to him, the interventions have helped to reverse some of the challenges that previously affected the sector.

Fintiri reiterated his determination to establish a functional, effective and credible post-primary education system in Adamawa.

“I will not look back in taking the necessary steps, no matter how tough, to protect the integrity of the system and ensure that our children receive the quality education they deserve,” he said.

The state government warned political appointees and public officers to uphold due process, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

It added that any conduct capable of undermining the progress recorded in the education sector would be dealt with decisively.
