Osun APC challenges Adeleke over missing drones
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of continuing to blame his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, for challenges facing the state, nearly four years after assuming office.
The opposition party said Adeleke’s administration had made a habit of attributing governance shortcomings to the previous government, urging the governor to take responsibility for security and other matters under his watch.
The APC’s criticism followed allegations by the state government that five security drones purchased during Oyetola’s tenure could not be accounted for.
In a statement issued earlier, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, claimed that the drones, allegedly paid for under the administration of Adegboyega Oyetola, had disappeared.
Rasheed said the government was considering the acquisition of new security drones as part of efforts to strengthen surveillance and improve security across the state.
However, the APC dismissed the allegation, describing it as an attempt to mislead the public and score political points.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the party said residents should disregard what it called the governor’s “blatant lie” regarding the purported purchase of the drones.
The party expressed disappointment that Adeleke was still directing blame at his predecessor after more than three years in office.
“It was our belief that the embattled Governor Adeleke would put an end to the running of his administration with lies and subterfuge towards the tail end of his administration that is winding up in November this year, but unfolding events have shown that it is pretty impossible for a leopard to change its colour,” the statement said.
The APC further insisted that Oyetola never purchased any drones during his four-year administration and challenged the governor to produce documentary evidence showing that such equipment was acquired.
It also urged members of the public to hold the Adeleke administration accountable for any deterioration in security across the state, arguing that responsibility for governance now rests squarely with the incumbent government.
The latest exchange underscores the increasingly bitter political rivalry between the camps of Governor Ademola Adeleke and Oyetola, with both sides trading accusations as political tensions build ahead of the state’s next electoral cycle.
