Fintiri clamps down on NGOs as the APC raises a stink.

In a recent statement by the chief press secretary to Governor Umaru Fintri, the government of Adamawa State reaffirmed its position that local and international NGOs’ operations in the state remain limited until the March 18 Governorship and State Assembly elections. During a state-wide broadcast on the 28th of February 2023, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri ordered the ban, explaining that some of them had been getting involved in politics instead of their primary duty of providing humanitarian aid. We expect the relevant enforcement agencies to maintain their authority.  They are responsible for ensuring the rules are followed.  The Governor warned that anyone who acted dishonestly would be treated as a saboteur and subjected to severe punishment. To be clear, until the elections are over and declared, you won’t be able to operate in any of Adamawa State’s 21 LGCs. The state government will keep an eye on you to make sure you don’t go crazy again and stop breaking the rules.
