NUT Chairman commends Gov. Bindow for clearing all teachers’ outstanding salaries arrears.

The Adamawa state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Rodney S. Nathan, has commended the Executive Governor of the state, Senator Mohammed Umar Jibrilla for ameliorating the suffering of teachers by paying them all their outstanding salaries arrears. Comrade Rodney gave the commendation while addressing pressmen on some lingering issues bedevilling the Union and its members at his office in Yola.

 

He said the reason for the press briefing was to acquaint their members of what is happening and what the Union is doing about it so as not to be caught unaware or misled.

He noted that they are all living witnessed that His Excellency, Senator Bindow has  fulfilled his promised and has paid the local governments staff, primary health care and primary schools teachers, all their outstanding salaries arrears.

 

However, the statement said their own was the one that came late and the reason for that was the month to be paid which was March, 2016 then, was been table payment. But now has to be submitted to banks in E-forms so that it can be pay through E- payment that was what caused for the delay.

 

Moreover, it brought to the notice of its members that they are mindful of the fact that there are some of them that did not get their alert due to errors or failed transactions. Hence, pleaded with them to be patience and follow due process to get their money.

 

The statement advised whoever is entitled to be paid but have not gotten alert to table their complaint to Local Education Authority, stating that it is the L.E.As that will channel the complaint to the board and board to E- payment. Maintaining that if there is anyone who has done that properly and have not yet been paid should exercise more patience as the Union is working on it and by the grace of God they will soon be paid. But advised them not to take their complaint directly to banks or anywhere except to their various L.E.As.

 

Enumerating further, the statement condemned in totally the recent frivolous attempt by some group of persons that disguised in the name of offering free computer training for the teachers in both Primary and Post Primary schools in the state, it said the Union is saying “No” to it because they have discovered that it was just a deceit and will not fold their arms and allow their members to be cheated.

 

More so, it added that it was not the NUT that stopped the training; rather it was the Ministry of Education through the Honourable Commissioner who ordered the stoppage of the training because they have not been briefed on the issue. So the statement ordered all Initiating Principals and L.E.As that has collected any teacher money in the name of computer training to return the money back to him/her. And if there is any complaint should consult the Hon. Commissioner or the board.

 

While on the issue of promotion, the statement said before they have been having some issue on it but now have resolved the matter. Particularly, it said very soon promotion for the Post Primary Schools teachers will be release while that of the Primary schools teachers have been approved by the Executive Governor and by the grace of God they will soon get their promotions.

 

Finally, the statement draw the attention of the prospective applicants who have applied for teaching job in Post Primary School to keep their hope high and disregard any rumours making round that some people have been already given appointment letters, noting that it was all lies. It stated that the employment is still on course and very soon they will be invited for oral or written test.
